IEA calls for global energy efficiency drive

The International Energy Agency’s annual report urges Europe to do more on product and vehicle efficiency standards.

A global push on energy efficiency could delay the time before the world is “locked-in” to a 2°C temperature rise by five years, according to the International Energy Agency.

However, two thirds of potential energy efficiency actions will not be taken unless governments tackle non-economic barriers.

The comments are made in the IEA’s annual World Energy Outlook report issued in November. It is the first time the document has contained an energy efficiency section.
