Serious pollution from regulated industry rises by nearly a third

Serious pollution incidents from Environment Agency-regulated industrial sites rose by 27% last year, although overall business pollution is at an all-time low.

This mixed picture emerged from the Environment Agency’s Sustainable Business Report, its annual stocktake of business compliance with environmental regulations.1 It reveals that waste and odour pollution from the growing biowaste sector is an emerging problem.
