The Department for Transport (DfT) is consulting on whether to increase the speed limit for HGVs, in a move that would also increase carbon emissions from haulage.

The consultation asks whether HGVs over 7.5 tonnes should be allowed to travel at up to 50mph on single carriageways, up from the current 40mph.1

The proposal follows pressure from trade associations and the Scottish government, among others, to change the law to boost growth.
