The House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee has launched an inquiry into the possibility of a Severn Barrage. This comes just two years after the government comprehensively rejected one.

“The government concluded there was not a strategic case for public investment in tidal energy schemes... but did not preclude a privately financed scheme coming forward,” the committee says. “Recent reports suggest that private financing may now be available.”
