NI water fined £8,000

Northern Ireland Water admitted polluting a stream next to its Moneyreagh sewage works on two occasions

Northern Ireland Water admitted polluting a stream next to its Moneyreagh sewage works on two occasions before Newtownards magistrates on 12 November.

The court heard that Northern Ireland Environment Agency officers noticed sewage overflowing into the watercourse from a storm tank on two occasions in March 2011. There was extensive sewage fungus on the stream bed.

The company was fined £8,000 with costs of £31 after being charged under section 7(1) of the Water (Northern Ireland) Order 1999.
