BT faces major disposal bill for PCB substitute

Significant tonnages of a hazardous substitute for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) not previously thought to be in use in the UK have been identified in old British Telecom equipment. The discovery comes amid evidence that very little PCB from UK sources is currently being incinerated despite the 1999 deadline set in a recent Government action plan.
