Scrap car challenge for recycling regulators

The EC Directive on end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) is set to force radical changes in scrap car treatment and recycling in the UK over the next five years. Dismantlers and shredder operators will have to make substantial investments, while car manufacturers will need to demonstrate compliance with financial and legal obligations to ensure sufficient ELVs are returned. But there are growing concerns about the ability of Government agencies to police the system and prevent the number of abandoned cars increasing still further.
