Government unveils spending plans to boost council recycling

The Government has accepted many of the recommendations in the Strategy Unit's waste review and is establishing a new public spending programme, totalling some £320 million over three years, to help English local authorities increase household waste recycling. It has also promised them an extra £180 million over two years in "challenge" funding.
