Ofgem selects low-carbon grid projects

Energy regulator Ofgem has announced the candidates for its latest round of low-carbon electricity network funding.

Energy regulator Ofgem announced on 24 May that six new low-carbon electricity network projects are eligible to compete for a total of £64m in funding. The funding will enable five electricity distribution companies to prepare their networks for the future.

The money comes from a £500m pool set aside to fund grid improvements over 2010-2015. Four projects received funds in the scheme’s first year (ENDS Report, December 2010). Lessons learned will be shared across the industry.
