After months of intense work, the Committee on Climate Change was cheered by the reception for its first report.

When the telephone-directory sized document came out last month, the media mostly took it at face value.

Here was a sober and plausible grand strategy from the government’s official advisers, aimed squarely at converting the UK from fossil fuel junkie into almost carbon-free nation state in just 40 years.1
