Europe’s carmakers ‘risk losing green vehicle race’

The European Commission has launched a green vehicles strategy, largely concerned with building on existing initiatives and legislation

Europe’s car industry risks falling behind in the race to decarbonise road transport, warns a European Commission strategy on clean and energy efficient vehicles published in early May.1

It aims to help EU carmakers, rather than those of Japan, China or the US, “lead the world in deploying alternative propulsion technologies”. This is the only way for the European automotive industry to remain competitive, it argues.
