MPs Joan Walley, Tim Yeo and Anne McIntosh have been chosen to chair the three environment-related select committees in the House of Commons. For the first time the chairs were chosen by secret ballot. It is hoped the move will give committees more clout.

Labour’s Ms Walley will chair the Environmental Audit Committee, Conservative Mr Yeo the Energy and Climate Change Committee, and Ms McIntosh, another Tory, the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. The chairmanship of the committees was allocated to parties in advance of the vote.
