Commission issues plans for car makers to prove recyclability

Proposals for a Directive to amend the "type-approval" regime for motor vehicle design to include provisions regarding reusability, recyclability and recoverability were belatedly issued by the European Commission in March1 - more than three years later than planned. The new provisions are needed to ensure that new vehicles meet minimum targets set out in the Directive on end-of-life vehicles.
