Third offshore wind farm gets green light

The Government has granted consent to National Wind Power for an offshore wind farm off north Wales at Rhyl Flats.

The project is the third from the first round of 18 developments to be granted consent. It follows the neighbouring North Hoyle site - also developed by National Wind Power - and Powergen's Scroby Sands project (ENDS Report 333, p 12 ).

The project was initially planned by Celtic Offshore Wind - a collaboration between Edison Mission Energy and West Coast Energy. However, ownership has now passed to National Wind Power following Edison Mission's world-wide exit from project development.
