Corrections and clarifications

Our report on the effluent spill from the Flexsys site at Ruabon (ENDS Report 333, p 15 ) said that the incident "forced" the closure of a water abstraction intake on the river Dee. In fact, the incident did not reach the level of severity required for this under the Dee pollution plan; the abstraction was shut down purely as a precautionary measure.

The article also reported that the Flexsys "site" has a "pollution hazard appraisal" score of E - the worst - under the Environment Agency's OPRA rating system. In fact, the six processes on the site have separate scores, and in 2001 these were four Es and two Cs. The Agency is reviewing the scores to check whether they were unduly influenced by the sensitivity of the location.
