Scotland gets ahead on water framework Directive

Primary legislation to implement the 2000 EU water framework Directive in Scotland cleared its final stage in the Scottish Parliament at the end of January. The legislation was strengthened and extended on its way, with new controls on fish farming, a sustainable development duty on Ministers and public bodies, and responsibility for urban drainage systems among the amendments pushed through by MSPs.
