EU sludge PAH limits untenable, UK research shows
Proposed EU limits on polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in sludge would stop "a very substantial proportion of all sewage sludge applications to agricultural land," according to research sponsored by the Environment Department.1 The study also found high sludge contents of short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins, which are facing increasing restrictions because of toxicity to aquatic life.
