DEFRA kicks off overhaul of waste licensing and inspection guidance

A major overhaul of the Government's statutory guidance to the Environment Agency on how it should licence and police waste management facilities was proposed by the Environment Department on 14 March.1 Major features include a move towards standardised licences backed up by the use of generic risk models, the scrapping of minimum inspection frequencies, and a more sophisticated approach to supervision of licensed activities.
