DTI proposes statutory reporting for tyre businesses

Statutory reporting requirements for businesses handling new and used tyres may be introduced to ensure that the UK meets the EU ban on landfilling tyres by 2006, according to a discussion paper issued by the Department of Trade and Industry on 7 March.1 The paper also proposes interim, non-binding targets to recover 85% of tyres in 2004 and 92% in 2005.
