Waste firms face scrutiny over closed areas of landfills under PPC

The Environment Agency has confirmed that it intends to bring closed areas at many landfill sites under the new pollution prevention and control (PPC) regime when operators apply for permits for ongoing landfill activities. The decision means that many operators will have to prepare improvement programmes for gas and leachate management in closed landfill cells as well as operational areas over the next few years.
