DTI blows cool on tradable permits for WEEE

A broad-brush discussion paper on how to implement two EU Directives on electrical and electronic waste was issued by the Department of Trade and Industry on 28 March.1 It suggests that compliance could be demonstrated by a statutory system of compliance notes that would be separate to the financing system. Recycling and recovery targets would be set for each broad appliance category rather than for types of products.
