Agency presses certification bodies on EMS standards

Many certification bodies are inadequately assessing the environmental performance and legal compliance of their clients, according to a position statement due shortly from the Environment Agency. It says that improved standards of certification will be needed if environmental management systems (EMSs) are to become robust enough to gain regulators' trust - and calls on the Government for help.
