Supermarkets' battle on pesticide residues falls flat

The major retailers have failed to cut pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables over the last five years, despite pledges to minimise them through quality assurance schemes, according to Friends of the Earth. The group has found that the Pesticides Safety Directorate's monitoring shows little change in the proportion of supermarket produce containing residues since 1998.
