Shanks closes unloved incinerator as cement kilns seal their victory
Shanks has finally taken the knife to its loss-making chemical waste incineration business, with the announcement that its Pontypool incinerator in south Wales will cease operations "for the foreseeable future". The company attributed its decision to three factors: cement kilns, restrictions on waste imports and waste minimisation in industry.
