Acrimony continues to last minute over aggregates tax

A six-month delay in the introduction of the aggregates levy is being sought by the quarrying industry following the Government's failure to meet its own target for issuing guidance to business on new legislation. The industry also fears that the legislation will allow a repeat of the abuses which have accompanied the landfill tax, and sees no prospect of the Treasury's plan to shape the levy so as encourage the use of low-grade quarry materials being implemented this year.
