Scotts signals retreat from peat

Britain's largest supplier of peat-based products, Scotts, has agreed to end operations at three endangered bogs in northern England which account for two-thirds of UK peat extraction. Environmental groups are pressing the company to lead the way in using composted garden waste as an alternative.
