Agency unveils tool to assess risks from contaminated land

A package of guidance and software to assess the health risks posed by contaminated land was released by the Environment Agency and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in March.1 The package - delayed for several years - underpins the UK's "suitable for use" regulatory approach to contaminated land. But the Agency is already concerned that guideline values calculated using the new package may be misinterpreted by local authorities and other stakeholders.
