Home composting may rescue councils from recycling targets

The Government is reviewing its decision not to allow home composting to contribute towards local authorities' household waste recycling targets, according to its response to the House of Commons Environment Sub-Committee's report on waste.1 Its defence of the waste strategy's "challenging" recycling targets jars with its acceptance that the Performance and Innovation Unit (PIU) will need to assess whether the strategy needs strengthening.
