Private prosecution brings record sewage fine for Anglian

Anglian Water has been ordered to pay the largest sewage pollution fine ever for a water company after an Essex man brought a prosecution over pollution of the river Crouch. The company was fined £200,000 after equipment and management failures led to a leak of raw sewage. The Environment Agency was left embarrassed after having failed to prosecute the company itself.
