The House of Commons Environment Committee saw fit to grill Environment Minister Michael Meacher for no less than two and a half hours on 15 April. Their subject was refrigerators. MPs demanded to know why it was that Ministers had failed to pave the way for smooth implementation of the EU legislation which, it eventually transpired, requires the recovery of ozone-depleting chemicals from fridge foams (see pp 39-40 ).
