Wastepack in firing line as UK misses EU packaging target

The UK failed to meet its target under the EU packaging Directive to recover at least 50% of packaging waste in 2001 by two percentage points - opening the door to infraction proceedings by the European Commission. The shortfall of some 200,000 tonnes emerged as Scottish regulators confirmed that major compliance scheme Wastepack had failed to obtain packaging waste recovery notes (PRNs) for a substantial tonnage of packaging.
