Volume of hazardous waste set to triple under new definition

Overdue changes to the definition of "special waste" - shortly to be re-named hazardous waste - are set to triple both the number of shipments and producers of such waste later this year, according to official forecasts. Meanwhile, a parliamentary committee has launched an inquiry into hazardous waste which looks set to turn up the heat on a topic that has escaped political interest for some years.
