Japanese firms force the pace on lead-free electronics

Japanese electronics firms are pulling out the stops to replace all uses of lead-based solder next year and are already converting their UK operations. But many UK firms, particularly SMEs, are said to be blinking in the headlights of oncoming EU legislation which could ban the use of lead solder from 2006.
