DTI outlines producer responsibility regime for tyres

A possible regime placing producer responsibility for tyre recovery on vehicle and tyre producers was outlined in a Department of Trade and Industry discussion paper in late March.1 The paper says that tradable certificate systems could be used to enable car producers to demonstrate compliance with both a new tyre regime and the EU end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) Directive - providing a valuable clue to the DTI's intentions in implementing the latter.
