Agency guidance on waste reporting

Companies reporting emissions to the Environment Agency's pollution inventory will have to give more detail on waste production, under new proposals issued for consultation in April. The Agency has also published guidance on reporting effluent discharges from landfills and sewage works.1 Under the pollution inventory's existing requirements, operators are not required to describe the nature of the wastes they generate beyond stating whether they are "special" or "non-special". The Agency is now proposing that, from 2002, operators should describe the types of waste they produce using the six-digit codes from the European Waste Catalogue.
