DTI slashes cost estimates of WEEE Directive

The Department of Trade and Industry has drastically revised its original estimates of the costs of implementing the proposed EU Directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). It now believes that costs could be as much as two-thirds less - with the main hit coming from treatment and recovery rather than separate collection of WEEE. The DTI has also outlined five options for financing equipment recovery.
