Farm plans and taxes proposed to tackle nutrient pollution

Research aimed at shaping the Government's emerging plans to control diffuse pollution from agriculture was published by English Nature and the Environment Agency at the end of April. Options examined include new taxes or charges on nutrient inputs - an idea also being examined by the Treasury - and grant-funded schemes for farmers to prepare soil protection plans.
