Energy efficiency Bill goes to the brink

The Government has been put on the spot after its attempts to prevent the inclusion of a target in a Private Member's Bill to promote household energy efficiency was defeated in the House of Commons on 10 May. With many Labour MPs supporting the Bill, it now faces a choice between maintaining its opposition to a target and stumping up cash for local authority energy conservation programmes.
