Corporate social responsibility: boon or bane for the environment?
Few environmental managers can have failed to notice the seemingly unstoppable rise of corporate social responsibility in the media, on the conference circuit and on boardroom agendas. But a recent conference in Amsterdam suggested that many companies see CSR as little more than corporate philanthropy. It remains early days for CSR - but there is a danger that the process of developing strategies may end up sidelining serious environmental discussion in some companies.
