Effluent breach costs Wessex £5,000

Continuing problems with wastewater treatment processes at Wessex Water's Poole sewage works resulted in prosecution for the Bath-based company. Routine monitoring of discharges by the Environment Agency showed that the works breached its ammonia limit by over 20% between May and August 2001.
