Commission sets out reforms of EU regulatory culture

Wide-ranging plans to reform the EU's regulatory culture were published by the European Commission in June. One part of the package proposes "simplification" of EU laws and greater use of co-regulation and self-regulation by business. There will also be a new system of impact assessments for policy and legislative initiatives which the Commission has promised will give effect to long-standing commitments to integrate the environmental dimension into its sectoral policies.
