NGOs kick off debate on EU pesticides policy

European environmental groups have fired the opening shot in a battle over the EU's future pesticides policy by drafting their own Directive proposing a 50% reduction in pesticide application frequencies within ten years. Pesticide manufacturers responded by voicing their opposition to quantitative use reduction targets, but the European Parliament has already signalled its support for the environmentalists' objectives.
