Drinking water quality "better than ever"

The Drinking Water Inspectorate has reported that water supplies delivered to consumers taps in England and Wales during 2001 were "better than ever".1 Compliance with water quality tests rose to 99.89% from 99.83% the previous year. The improvements were put down to better compliance with microbiological standards, as well as reduced levels of iron, lead and trihalomethane disinfection by-products.
