£8 million landfill clean-up falls to public purse

Taxpayers will have to meet the £8 million cost of cleaning up two landfill sites at Helpston, near Peterborough, which are leaking pesticides and other contaminants into an important drinking water aquifer. The sites have been declared "orphan" because the former operator - Hunts Refuse Disposals - cannot pay.
