Scotland aims for 60% recycling/composting

Some 60% of Scotland's municipal solid waste (MSW) will be recycled or composted and 16% converted to energy by 2020 if targets set out in eleven draft area waste plans are met, according to a progress report from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.1 Almost one million tonnes of additional annual energy-from-waste capacity would be needed, but this could be much smaller if waste growth is halted.
