DEFRA sets out plans to implement incineration controls

Draft regulations to implement the 2000 EU Directive on waste incineration have been issued for consultation by the Department for Environment, Food and Regional Affairs.1 The proposals, mirroring the Directive almost word for word, are likely to force expensive upgrading of incinerators and plants burning wastes as fuel. In practice, it will also stop garages and roadstone plants from burning waste oil - raising concerns about illegal disposal amid the continued absence of measures to stimulate oil recycling.
