Commission's plans for pesticides strategy set to stir controversy

The European Commission kicked off the process of developing a "thematic strategy" on sustainable use of pesticides in July with a paper sketching out the main components of the strategy.1 It appears to have dropped the idea of an EU tax on pesticides for some time ahead, and has set itself on a collision course with the European Parliament and environmental groups by not proposing any targets for limiting pesticide use.
