UK incident feeds rising tide of concern about GM contamination

The biotechnology industry has once again demonstrated its talent for shooting itself in the foot after unauthorised genetic material was found in GM crops being grown by Aventis CropScience in more than a dozen farm-scale trials in Britain. The chance discovery is likely to lead to new regulatory controls on the sector, and is also a blow to the credibility of the Government's GM Inspectorate.
