Government sails close to the wind on national emissions ceilings

The UK is broadly on course to meet EU limits on national emissions of acid gases, according to a draft strategy issued in August.1 However, compliance will be jeopardised if the UK opts for a low-cost implementation approach under the large combustion plants Directive - and the Government is back-tracking on plans to curb ammonia emissions from agriculture.
