Agency updates sewage disinfection policy, assesses performance

The Environment Agency has completed a review of its policies for consenting sewage discharges treated by disinfection systems such as ultra-violet light or membrane plant. The revision will iron out inconsistencies due to regional consenting practices, permitting a clearer national picture of compliance to emerge. Dischargers will also be able to reduce monitoring at less sensitive sites.
